The Bookish December Challenge Continues

This has been a pleasant diversion for the month of December when I have been distracted and moving forward on my manuscript feels disjointed. Was it Stephen King who said. “If you have a lot of thoughts, write, if you need inspiration read?” I’m not sure. But it is an apt quote for this month. So, reading it is!

Day 7

Candle Day

I think Candle Day originated in Colombia when people decorated the outside of their homes with candles and lanterns to signal the start of the Christmas seasoon. This must be where the tradition of decorating the outside of our homes with lights began. My favourite candle for this time of year is the warm maple scent from Milk Jar.

Charlie Brown’s Christmas and this beautiful picture book by Jan Brett are perfect for sharing with the little ones in your life.

Day 8

Green

I love The Giving Tree, By Shel Silverstein. It is a beautiful must-read about unconditional love and generosity. The lantern, bought on one of my travels, perhaps in a museum gift shop in Old Montreal, is a reminder that love and generosity bring light to people’s lives.

Day 9

Christmas Card Day

Today my picks to go with the Charlie Brown Christmas Card (which will not be sent due to the Canada Post strike) include Tot by Micheal Morpugo, in which the dog retells the Wizard of Oz with delightful illustrations and Happy Place because it is a story about best friends. Not new releases, but both wonderful books on the themes of family and friends.

Day 10

Pretty Books

In keeping with the “pretty” theme I decided to post one adult, pretty cover and one Young Adult cover. I have to admit that I am a sucker for a pretty cover and they are very popular, especially with room-coms and teen reads. It is annoying, however, if the content is serious and dark and unfortunately this sometimes happens. As much as we perhaps should NOT judge a book by its cover, I also believe the cover SHOULD reflect the books content. This is sometimes a bit of a stretch with the Karen Swan novels, but I did really like this book and I do really like the cover!

I couldn’t resist adding my pretty tea set to the mix, since the colours were suchh a good match.

I have really enjoyed the December Bookish Challenge, but will take a bit of a break at this point. I may jump in a bit later with a post or two.

Happy December, everyone! Happy reading and writing!
