Writing: A Juggling Act

Yes. Writing is absolutely a juggling act. You need a solid plot, paying attention to the arc of the narrative. Not to mention compelling characters who do not lie flat on the page. Then there are the subplots and how they connect to the main plot, and of course, you must prevent the middle from sagging. So much to think about! That’s just a little of what is shouting at you from the page, and it’s possible you have another life you are trying to balance with your writing time.

Relax. Breathe. Set the timer. And write for ten minutes. Just commit to doing one thing.

Writing Prompt

Today, write a journal entry from the point of view of your main character. If you are feeling frustrated at the lack of writing time, write a journal entry in which your character is feeling frustrated. Let him vent about his day. If you are having a great day, put your character in a good mood. Don’t let any of those emotions go to waste. You’re a writer. Everything is material!
